This patient came to us after an NHS Semen Analysis failed to pick up any issues. We were able to identify immunological infertility from a very strong antisperm antibody test reaction (also known as a MAR test) which hadn’t been performed on the NHS test. The sperm also had moderate agglutination, which is where the motile sperm stick to each other, and can make sperm progression difficult, therefore lowering the chance of the sperm reaching the egg and in turn making conception less likely.

Antisperm antibodies are common, and are normally caused by accidental testicular injury, groin surgery or sometimes even sports injuries in that region.
